Treats From My Foodie Penpal – March 2014

March 31, 2014 By Monica Stone 4 Comments

Hey Everyone!

It’s Foodie Penpal Reveal Day!

I LOVE Foodie Penpals if you can’t tell.  Foodie Penpals is a program that Lindsey at The Lean Green Bean set up. After you sign up, she matches you with someone. From there, you get in touch with your penpal and discuss any allergies or food restrictions, and then send a package to that person.

I was matched up with Emma, and got in touch with her right away. We emailed back and forth a little bit, and exchanged information about our diets and blogs. She’s super friendly, and since we’ve been following each other on Instagram and exchanging emails, I feel like I’ve found a life long connection with her. Here she is:

I love Emma’s blog, Emma Getting Healthy because she shares delicious healthy recipes and her top health tips. She’s also inspiring to follow on Instagram because she motivates others through her journey on keeping up a healthy lifestyle. And, she does fun giveaways.

The excitement of getting a package in the mail never gets old, so I ran inside right away to open it up and see what was inside.

frame.jpgI received the nicest & most beautifully written card explaining why she chose these items for me, and gave me some ideas on how to eat the hemp hearts. She said she likes to sprinkle them on her yogurt, which was awesome! I also started putting them in my cereal every morning with fresh fruit. I read that they’re good mixed in smoothies, so that’s what I’m going to try next!

2014-03-30 23.03.17 The first thing I grabbed out of the box was this “Almonds & Friends” trail mix. This was the freshest trail mix I have ever had. It’s a new favorite for sure. The dried strawberries were actually really juicy, and I could tell the people who put this mix together did so with love.

almonts & friends

I was happy to receive the Larabar’s because I always go for Cashew Cookie, and this forced me to get out of my shell and try something new. These were both AWESOME, and I’m definitely going to add Cherry Pie to my mix.

Side note: I also couldn’t get Warrant’s Cherry Pie out of my head all day when I opened the bar….

The kicker though were these nut butters. OH MY GOD! They were TO DIE FOR! I had them on Van’s Gluten Free Waffles. I toasted them and was able to use the packets for a few days. Sometimes I toast waffles and use almond butter mixed with honey, but with the Justin’s nut butters, they’re amazing as is.

Thank you so much Emma for the amazing box of delights, and for the new friendship. If you liked these treats, follow Emma on Instagram <here>, and her blog <here> !

And if you want to talk about cheesy metal bands, follow me! I was going to write 80s, but I looked it up to be sure, and the release year for this was 1990. Who would have guessed?

If this sounds cool to you, head on over to The Lean Green Bean blog,  read the rules, and then sign up here —-> CLICK TO BE A PENPAL. It’s super easy and a great community of healthy living bloggers and readers. I’d love to be your penpal one day!

I’m going to head on over to my friend Annie’s post to see how she liked Foodie Penpals! What are some of your favorite treats?

  • Jaime ShearerJaime ShearerYoga Student Since 2012

Monica is dedicated to her own practice and the true path of yoga - the one of personal experience - which makes her an outstanding teacher. She is warm and easy to talk with, and she allows the student to have their own experience on the mat. She explains postures and breath in ways that are understandable so that the student "gets it." She makes yoga real and tangible in ways that truly serve the student. Work with Monica. You'll be glad you did.

have always wanted to try yoga, but was always nervous. Monica took that fear away and made me feel like i was the only one in class with a room full of strangers. She is able to work with multiple students during the same move and still make it a personalized class for one.

Monica is a caring, wise, thoughtful, and talented yoga instructor. She has an in-depth knowledge of the philosophy and spirituality of Ashtanga yoga. My previous yoga experience had mostly just been at my local gym. Luckily, last year I found Monica. She has been guiding my practice at least once a week since then. As a newcomer to Ashtanga yoga, Monica made me feel comfortable and had the patience to teach me the basics. She also encouraged me to start an at home practice so that I was able to obtain a deeper understanding of Ashtanga. Monica is always encouraging and lets me know in subtle ways when she feels that I am ready to move deeper into my practice. I feel that the growth in my practice over the last year has been tremendous. Not only do I notice the change in me but others around me do as well. I am so grateful to have found Monica!

I’ve come across many a yoga instructor over the years, but Monica stands out as genuinely amiable, as she glows with an infectious inner light, and highly devoted to and passionate about her practice. Her dedication to Ashtanga as a lifestyle is very clear, and creates for a contagious motivating force. Every time I’ve practiced with her, she eagerly transmits her devotion and passion of Ashtanga and meditation to everyone in class; she makes the most fledgling beginner feel at home, and simultaneously challenges the more advanced students. While I only practice Ashtanga with her, I know she provides therapeutic yoga sessions as well as meditation. And, if her methods of guiding students out of the Ashtanga vigor into the more meditative savasana are indicative of her meditational techniques, I’d recommend her to anyone
