AWESOME Mix Of Fun Foods & Creative Dinner Dates

January 24, 2014 By Monica Stone 8 Comments

As much as I love cooking, potlucks and dinner parties, I’m also a huge fan of going out to dinner with friends. I get all excited and jump up and down a little when I find out about a new restaurant opening. I can’t wait to try it out and suggest it to all of my friends and plan dinner… View Post

Spicy Orzo Soup with Veggies & Fire Roasted Tomatoes

January 22, 2014 By Monica Stone 1 Comment

Orzo is one of my favorite pastas, and soup is one of my favorite foods. I just love the texture of orzo, and it’s really great in a soup, so it’s perfect. You know I’m a huge Heidi Swanson fan, so I found a soup in her Super Natural Cooking cookbook. I wanted a vegan soup, and this one was vegetarian, so… View Post

5 Yoga Essentials: A Starter Kit for The Beginner Yogi

January 14, 2014 By Monica Stone 8 Comments

Quick Note: Scroll to the bottom to see the summary I created for quick reference. Because prices change so much, I didn’t list them. The towels, bags, and mats range from $40-120. Everything else ranges $10-$30 I’m not flexible. I have no balance. What if I’m not prepared. Do I need props? I’m out of shape. People will make fun… View Post

The Answer My Friend Is Blowing In The Wind

January 7, 2014 By Monica Stone 8 Comments

This past year I took a trip to Nepal. I haven’t written about it in detail, but I will soon since there were so many themes, lessons, and crazy things that happened. For one, my friend and I were invited into two extravagant Bollywood weddings. That’s random, right? Thinking about it seems so surreal, and I get overwhelmed in an… View Post

Reflections on Love & Intimacy: A Letter From Govinda Kai

January 6, 2014 By Monica Stone 6 Comments

Love and attachment are two very different things, and although I understand the difference, I often get tongue tied and twisted around when I try to explain it to others. I met Govinda Kai in 2011 when I attended a workshop in Orlando, FL where we discussed topics on love and intimacy. I was drawn to him right away because of the honest… View Post

Does Sharath Have Bad Form?

January 3, 2014 By Monica Stone Leave a Comment

For the record, I don’t think Sharath has bad form. That was just to get your attention, and it looks like it worked (YES!!). This YouTube video of Sharath came out a few months ago and caused a lot of criticism and judgement in the Ashtanga community about form and alignment. I watched the videos and message boards, and people… View Post

Notes From My Practice Journal: Allowing Love Into My Life

January 2, 2014 By Monica Stone 1 Comment

It was a little chilly out this morning. When I pulled up to the little Shala where I practice yoga, I scurried out of my car to quickly get out of the cold rainy Florida weather. It felt so cozy when I walked into the heated room, and it was a blessing to see everyone practicing. I don’t know if… View Post

I Set My Goals For The New Year, and Think You Should Too

December 29, 2013 By Monica Stone 5 Comments

Hey Everyone! I do not usually make New Years resolutions because I am a stickler for making change when it needs to be made. I feel like the best way to happiness is to live is to be present and live like every day is your last. Why does January 1st have to be the day we all decide to… View Post

Starting A Meditation Practice: Beginner Tips for Quieting The Mind

December 24, 2013 By Monica Stone 19 Comments

A few years ago I attended a 10-day silent meditation retreat in TwentyNine Palms, CA – where I completely fell in love with the desert. It was a very intense, yet a rewarding experience, which I’ll write more about one day soon.  Sitting meditation is a practice that deals with concentrating on one point. This way, you have one main focus as… View Post

December 21, 2013 By Jeff Welch 3 Comments

Guest Post by Jeff Welch: I’ve been on these roller coaster rides of emotion lately. Right now I feel so happy and grateful. Two hours ago I was kinda depressed and frustrated. A few hours before that I was indifferent. What’s going on with me? “Oh right – it’s called being a human.” These ups and downs are part of… View Post

Guest Post: Confronting The Anger Demon by Kelli Hastings

December 19, 2013 By Kelli Hastings 8 Comments

Guest Post By Kelli Hastings: I recently decided I wanted to go camping alone in the woods for at least one night. I imagined that my campsite would be secluded and surrounded by forest, with no other campers within eye or earshot, giving me a real chance to deal with whatever shadows arose within me during my alone time. What Is My Life Purpose? How Do I Live Out My True Potential?

December 15, 2013 By Monica Stone 2 Comments

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about karma, death, rebirth, samsara – all of that stuff. I feel like we’re on a constant chase in life. I’m so guilty of it too. I constantly catch myself saying things like, “I’ll be happy when…” Even though I know I have the choice to be happy all of the time, it’s really… View Post

Testimonials

  • Jaime ShearerJaime ShearerYoga Student Since 2012

Monica is dedicated to her own practice and the true path of yoga - the one of personal experience - which makes her an outstanding teacher. She is warm and easy to talk with, and she allows the student to have their own experience on the mat. She explains postures and breath in ways that are understandable so that the student "gets it." She makes yoga real and tangible in ways that truly serve the student. Work with Monica. You'll be glad you did.

  • Jacob AbercrombieJacob AbercrombieYoga Student Since 2011

have always wanted to try yoga, but was always nervous. Monica took that fear away and made me feel like i was the only one in class with a room full of strangers. She is able to work with multiple students during the same move and still make it a personalized class for one.

  • Serena JonesSerena JonesYoga Student Since 2010

Monica has been a highly influential teacher to me. She creates a safe environment for learning and practice. I have always felt grounded in her classes, and she pushes me beyond my own expectations. She inspires and motivates! I can't imagine my life without sharing a path with her!

  • Angela OrofinoAngela OrofinoYoga Student Since 2011

Monica is a caring, wise, thoughtful, and talented yoga instructor. She has an in-depth knowledge of the philosophy and spirituality of Ashtanga yoga. My previous yoga experience had mostly just been at my local gym. Luckily, last year I found Monica. She has been guiding my practice at least once a week since then. As a newcomer to Ashtanga yoga, Monica made me feel comfortable and had the patience to teach me the basics. She also encouraged me to start an at home practice so that I was able to obtain a deeper understanding of Ashtanga. Monica is always encouraging and lets me know in subtle ways when she feels that I am ready to move deeper into my practice. I feel that the growth in my practice over the last year has been tremendous. Not only do I notice the change in me but others around me do as well. I am so grateful to have found Monica!

  • Sasha TamarSasha TamarYoga Student Since 2012

I’ve come across many a yoga instructor over the years, but Monica stands out as genuinely amiable, as she glows with an infectious inner light, and highly devoted to and passionate about her practice. Her dedication to Ashtanga as a lifestyle is very clear, and creates for a contagious motivating force. Every time I’ve practiced with her, she eagerly transmits her devotion and passion of Ashtanga and meditation to everyone in class; she makes the most fledgling beginner feel at home, and simultaneously challenges the more advanced students. While I only practice Ashtanga with her, I know she provides therapeutic yoga sessions as well as meditation. And, if her methods of guiding students out of the Ashtanga vigor into the more meditative savasana are indicative of her meditational techniques, I’d recommend her to anyone
